Lord, I pray your will for my future spouse. That you know my desire for a husband and a family one day, but let that not become an idol over you Father, for I belong to you and you call me your child, beautiful work of art(1), wonderfully made(2), your daughter. The almighty one, Alpha and Omega, beginning and the end(3). You make all ends meet. I pray you take away the fantasy of marriage and relationships, so that I may see a true, honest, pure, undefiled relationship(4). For I will not be discouraged(5), you will provide abundantly for me(6). I must die to myself, so that you can live through me(7). I don’t find fulfillment in others but in you Lord(8). My cup overflows with your love and grace(9). You are a God of love not hate(10). Let me not grow bitter in waiting for what you have planned for me(11). The spirit of loneliness does not exist in your presence. I am satisfied in you Lord(12).

I wrote this prayer for my future spouse to God, but instead of it being a description of what I pray for in my future spouse God started to speak through me as I wrote. He started to pull words and sentences to the front of my mind. Before I knew it, I was writing down what He was saying to me, and who He is. I was writing the doubts that I battled, speaking out against them. What I didn’t realize was that every time I wrote a sentence down, He affirmed it in me. What was meant to be a prayer for a spouse turned into a prayer over myself, to be able to recognize the person God has for me. Wow, isn’t God so awesome. He tells us what we need to hear, not what we want to hear.

I am definitely not a writer, but throughout the past few months, I’ve been able to write so many blogs, which I never thought I could do. He’s taken something that I was unskilled in and used it for His good.

The words in bold are referenced in these scriptures below:

(1) Ephesians 2:10 “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

(2) Psalms 139:14 “ I will give thanks to thee, for I a fearfully and wonderfully made;”

(3) Revelations 22:13 “ I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”

(4) Hebrews 13:4 “ Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge.”

(5) Nehemiah 6:9 “For all of them were trying to frighten us, thinking, “They will become discouraged with the work and it will not be done,” But now, O God, strengthen my hands.”

(6) Deuteronomy 30:9 “Then the Lord your God will prosper you abundantly in all the work of your hand…for the Lord will again rejoice over you for good, just as He rejoiced over your fathers;”

(7) 1 Corinthians 15:31 “I protest brethren, by the boasting in you, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord , I die daily.”

(8) Psalms 16:11 “Thou wilt make known to me the path of life; In Thy presence is fulness of joy; In Thy right hand there are pleasures forever.”

(9) Psalms 23:5    “Thou dost prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; Thou hast anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows.”

(10) 1 John 4:16 “ And we have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”

(11) Jeremiah 29:11 “ For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.”

(12) Psalms 107:9 “For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, and the hungry soul He has filled with what is good.”

  1. Kayci, you will never regret your choice to let God guide you. There is just nothing so perfectly dependable. We won’t always understand but we can totally count on Him. That is THE only thing we need now and forever??
